HEAN has continued to push the envelope of mobile technology, exposing as much data as possible on the mobile phone. As pollution and GPS data are collected from Eco-Pacs and uploaded to the web, all the information will simultaneously be made available over SMS.
The first mobile information service brought to you by the HEAN Mobile Action Network provides real time air pollution data for your area.
Text the word AIR plus your zip code to 30644 on your mobile phone for the latest report, with data provided by the EPA.
The service measures a number of different pollutants in the air, including both fine and coarse particulate levels (what you're breathing) and the level of ozone depletion (UV radiation on your skin). For each pollutant, a rating is provided, ranging from "Good" to "Moderate" to "Hazardous to your Health". Data are collected every hour in each region and made available over SMS text messaging immediately. The mobile service is provided in both English and Spanish. To set your phone preference to Spanish, text ES to 30644. To change back to English, text EN.
